The Big KnoxVenture Race Rules, presented by Pilot

  1. The race committee reserves the right to disqualify any person or team that exhibits unsportsmanlike conduct during the event.

  2. The race bib given to the team must be carried and visible at all times.

  3. Competitors must complete the entire course, pass through all checkpoints, and have their passport stamped at each checkpoint. Passports will be submitted to race officials upon crossing the finish line to check for all 12 stamps to show the team completed the course.

  4. Checkpoints may be completed in any order and any race route designed by the team may be used.

  5. Use of the following electronic items are prohibited during the race: GPS technology, radios, cellular phones, headsets and computers. Pets, roller blades and bikes are also prohibited.

  6. Teammates must stay within 50 feet of each other at all times during the race (unless otherwise specified). Failure to comply will result in a penalty.

  7. All team members must cross the finish line together. Teams may continue if one team member withdraws, but will not be considered in the final standings.

  8. Each team must consist of two to four members and must fall into one of the following divisions:

    Corporate: teams with participants employed by the same company
    Open: teams with all male or male AND female participants
    Female: teams with all female participants
    Family: teams bringing a non-competing child under the age of 10 (strollers welcome)Big/Little: teams of BBBS “Bigs” and their participating “Little”

     

  9. Team members must dress alike. Teams can wear the official Big KnoxVenture Race t-shirt, put together costumes or just wear matching colors.

  10. To participate in the race, you must be at least 10 years old and one member of your team must be at least 18 years old; participants under the age of 18 must also have a parent or guardian’s permission to participate. Younger children may tag along, but will not count as team members.

  11. No outside assistance is allowed, but competitors may help each other during the race.

  12. Streets are neither closed to traffic, nor policed for this event. Therefore, participants must obey all traffic laws along the way. Any team caught not following traffic laws will be disqualified.

  13. Please stay off private property unless specified!

  14. Respect the environment. No littering. The race organizers have the right to penalize any team caught littering.

  15. Race organizers reserve the right to decide whether a person or team may not continue for health, safety or other reasons.

  16. Each team is responsible for its own nutritional needs and hydration during the race.

  17. Teams must travel only by foot.


Any penalties incurred will be added to the team’s total time at the end of the race.

  1. Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee is not responsible for any items lost or misplaced during the race.

  2. Each participant of The Big KnoxVenture Race consents to the use of his/her name, image, photograph and voice for any and all programming and publicity purposes in media used by Big Brothers Big Sisters without payment or compensation.

  3. All decisions interpreting or applying to these rules are made by Big Brothers Big Sisters. All decisions and interpretations are final. There is no right of appeal or review. These rules are subject to change without notice.
