The race will begin in downtown Knoxville at The Square Room.
The clues and tasks will range in difficulty, involvement and skills necessary for completion. This race is for everyone, so we promise not to make it too difficult. We can't tell you the exact checkpoints, but in case you’d like a little more of an idea, we’ve included some below. An example clue might be: “This well-known soft drink was first marketed in Knoxville in 1948. The first, sixth, seventh and eighth letters of the name spell a street in downtown Knoxville. Go to the 100 block of this street for a special task.” We’ll give you a second to think about that last one….Figure it out yet? An example task might be: “Your entire team must sit in every seat of a section in Neyland Stadium.” – or – “Order a Boba Tea at Knoxville’s only Cereal bar. Each member must try it and you’ll receive your next clue when finished.” Of course there will be more challenging questions too. Oh and now that we’ve given you those examples, don’t expect to see them on race day.
The time it takes depends on how quickly your team completes all the checkpoints. We estimate that some teams will be finished in 2-3 hours and some might take the entire 5 hours. Remember that the focus is on teamwork and having fun – in many instances, those skills will help as much or more than speed. At 3:02pm, five hours after the start, the race course will close and all teams will be sent to the finish-line festivities.
You are not required to run the course, but the more you run, the greater your team’s chances of being named Knoxville’s 2nd Annual U.S. Cellular Big KnoxVenture Race champion.
Twelve. We’ll give more specifics close to race time, but we can’t tell you too much.
As we speak, our genius team of non-profit events specialists is finalizing the 2010 race path. When you finish the course, your team will have trekked about 4-5 miles. If this seems like a lot, remember that there will be 12-14 checkpoints throughout the race that will give you a second to breathe.
Yes, the checkpoints must be completed in order. If your team arrives at a checkpoint where there’s a backup of teams, you must wait. No skipping ahead is allowed.
If you get stumped, you may receive help from the race volunteers after a predetermined amount of time.
No. Streets are neither closed to traffic, nor policed for this event. Therefore, participants must obey all traffic laws along the way. Any team caught not following traffic laws will be disqualified.
